Scholarship and Prize Giving Function
22nd November 2007, Thanksgiving Day was a memorable day for all the children and staff of Lady Irwin School. Ms. Rita Narang an old student of the 1965 batch went to the U.S. in 1966. She graduated from Wellesley College and MBA from The University of Rochester. She then started working for Xerox and till date is with them. She came as Santa Claus (OR big sister?) to Lady Irwin School and gave away a large number of cash prizes to the students in memory of her mother and other women in her life. Nearly 400 students received the cash prizes in Academics, Art, Drama, Music, Dance, Sports. The prize winners were also given photographs which were taken while they were receiving the prizes.

Among the distinguished people who had come to attend the function were Mr. D.D. Mulherkar, Miss Lakshmi Mathur, Dr. Kavita Sama, Mr. Anil Madan, Mr. P.C. Bose, Ms. Ragini Maheshwari and Ms. Anita Bembey. After the function all the staff members and the guests talked over a cup of tea. A similar function was conducted later in the Junior School. The special guests in the Junior School were Mr. and Mrs. Sood, Mr. and Mrs. Dhawan, Ms. Surjit Singh and Mr. Jasbir Singh.

Mr. and Mrs. Dhawan and Mr. and Mrs. Sood announced monthly scholarships for fifteen students after the function. These are yet to be given. The list of students is already finalized.

Many children made announcements and they were glad to do it even though they did not get a prize. Children brought the chairs from the science room to the ground. The students helped in spreading the durries. They sat patiently throughout the programme. The ones who received prizes were happy. The ones who did not were thinking that if I had studied a bit more I would have got the prize. Many children said that they will try hard and get it next year.

A few more are yet to receive scholarships which will be finalized soon. For the first time in the history of Lady Irwin School was there recognition of hard work of the students at such a large scale. The total amount of scholarships and prizes will be around Rs. 1 Lac. We would also like to continue the tradition of having the prize giving every year for which we would request other old students to contribute for this cause.

Mr. Madan has got 25 Iron Racks for the library. All four of his sisters have studied from Lady Irwin School Dr. Kavita Sama, Dr.Chandra Madan, Roopa Madan and Dr.Shobha Madan. They are also proposing to add on books to the library in the memory of their parents.

29 children of Lady Irwin School received scholarships for Rs. 1200/- per year.
